IAP4Mobility - Special Focus on Automotive & ITS

A Workshop in the framework of ESA‘s Integrated Applications Promotion (IAP) Programme

Wednesday, January 25, 2017

Niedersächsisches Forschungszentrum Fahrzeugtechnik (NFF)/Technische Universität Braunschweig
Hermann-Blenk-Straße 42, 38108 Braunschweig, Germany

The mobility sector faces lots of challenges. However, the focus is no longer on the car itself. The development moves towards assistance for drivers as well as autonomous driving. Cars and other vehicles are getting more and more innovative and intelligent. This evolution towards a future mobility results in increasing requests for more effective and innovative solutions, products and services. It implies at the same time new challenges and problems. Not all of them can be met with the methods and tools currently in place. A glance at other industry and technology sectors, including even space technologies, can help to meet these challenges - lateral thinking is the name of the game!

Have you ever taken into account that space technologies may be the key to develop innovative services and solutions for the Automotive and ITS Sector? Satellite navigation devices are commonly used nowadays in cars, bikes and by pedestrians. The added value of integrated services and applications based on other space technologies like satellite communication, earth observation, manned space flight technologies or technologies of other space sectors may not be obvious at first glance and hence possibly not even taken into consideration.

The workshop will present trends and challenges of the mobility sector, the benefits space technologies can offer and how the Integrated Applications Promotion (IAP) programme of the European Space Agency (ESA) supports and contributes to the development of services to meet these challenges.

Moreover, the workshop will include parallel working groups on the following three topics “Driver Assistance Systems”, “ITS” and “Automated Driving”. These working groups have the objectives to

  • Discuss and develop potential project ideas
  • Support teaming of companies and potential users in order to realize ideas
  • Enable networking between the various actors

The language of the workshop is English. The workshop is targeting companies from the Automotive and ITS as well as the Space Sector. The participation in the workshop is free of charge. As the number of participants is limited, registration is based on a “first come, first served” basis. You can register online until January 18, 2017. Expect confirmation within two weeks. (During the Christmas break please expect some delay.)

In the framework of the workshop you have the possibility to participate in a networking dinner on 25 January 2017 as well as in the “German Finnish IAP B2B Breakfast” on 26 January 2017.
